Big beat is a high-energy strain of 1990s electronic dance music built on hefty breakbeats, distorted basslines, and hooky, often rock-leaning samples that make it feel both club-ready and stadium-sized. Tracks typically ride mid-to-up tempos with punchy drum programming, gritty synth riffs, and dramatic builds and drops, borrowing attitude from techno, hip-hop, and alternative rock. The sound favors bold, “larger than life” production—compressed drums, crunchy effects, and swirling atmospherics—balancing raw groove with cinematic momentum and a playful cut-and-paste collage aesthetic.
