Brit funk is a UK-born strain of late-’70s and ’80s funk that blends American groove traditions with British pop sheen, jazz-funk musicianship, and dancefloor pragmatism. Built on tight, syncopated basslines, crisp drumming, wah or clean rhythm guitar, and bright horn or synth stabs, it favors polished arrangements and punchy hooks while keeping a strong pocket for club play. The sound often carries a soulful, urban edge—sometimes leaning into disco, boogie, or early electro—yet stays grounded in live-band interplay and agile, upbeat rhythms designed to move bodies.
