Carnatic Music
Carnatic music is a classical music tradition from South India, deeply rooted in devotional themes and intricate melodic and rhythmic structures. It features highly ornamented vocal and instrumental performances, often emphasizing expressive improvisation and complex rhythmic cycles (tala). The genre is known for its structured compositions (krithis) by legendary composers like Tyagaraja and Muthuswami Dikshitar, as well as modern adaptations blending contemporary elements. Carnatic music employs microtonal nuances (gamakas) and is performed using traditional instruments like the violin, veena, and mridangam, alongside powerful, emotive vocals.
