Caucasian folk is a diverse family of traditional musics from the Caucasus—Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the North Caucasus—known for powerful vocal traditions, intricate rhythms, and dance-driven energy. It often features dense, ringing polyphonic singing (especially Georgian styles), call-and-response choruses, and ornamented solo lines that can sound both mournful and celebratory. Instrumentation commonly includes plucked lutes (panduri, saz), bowed strings (kamancha), flutes (duduk, salamuri), and punchy hand percussion, with melodies shaped by modal scales and agile improvisation.
