Ceilidh

Ceilidh (or céilí) is lively Scottish and Irish dance music made for social gatherings where the tunes drive group dances like jigs, reels, strathspeys, polkas, and waltzes. Played by tight, energetic dance bands, it often features fiddles, accordions, flutes or whistles, guitars, bass, and punchy piano or drum backing, with a strong, steady rhythm that keeps dancers locked in. Sets tend to be medleys that build momentum, balancing traditional melodies with a crisp, modern dance-hall sound. A caller is often involved, guiding dancers through the figures as the band pushes the pace and lift.
