Collage Pop

Collage pop is a genre characterized by its eclectic, fragmented sound, often featuring intricate arrangements of disparate elements, such as chopped-up samples, found sounds, and unconventional instrumentation. Emerging in the 1990s and gaining momentum in the 2010s, collage pop draws from avant-garde, electronic, and hip-hop traditions, often incorporating elements of noise, ambient, and experimental music. This genre's cultural significance lies in its rejection of traditional musical structures, embracing chaos and disorder to create a sense of sonic disorientation. Artists associated with collage pop frequently push boundaries, challenging listeners' expectations and blurring the lines between sound art, music, and noise. The genre's key characteristic is its use of sonic collage, where disparate fragments are recontextualized to create new, often surreal soundscapes, setting it apart from more conventional forms of pop and electronic music.
