Delta Blues

Delta blues is a raw, emotive style of blues music that originated in the Mississippi Delta during the early 20th century. Characterized by its sparse instrumentation, typically involving acoustic guitars and harmonica, it often features slide guitar techniques and haunting vocals. The lyrics commonly speak of life's hardships and heartaches, reflecting the African-American experience in the Deep South. Its intense and personal nature was profoundly shaped by the likes of Robert Johnson, whose masterful storytelling and guitar skills became legendary, and Son House, known for his powerful voice and rhythmic innovation. Delta blues laid the foundation for the development of other blues subgenres and has had a significant impact on the evolution of rock and roll and contemporary music, with its influence echoing in the works of many later musicians.
