Djent

Djent is a subgenre of progressive metal characterized by its complex, polyrhythmic time signatures, and a distinctive "djent" sound, marked by palm-muted, staccato guitar chords and a prominent use of seven- and eight-string guitars. Emerging in the early 2000s, djent drew inspiration from Swedish extreme metal, particularly Meshuggah's experimental style. By the mid-2010s, the genre gained popularity, with bands blending intricate instrumental arrangements, ambient atmospheric passages, and a mix of clean, melodic vocals and aggressive, screamed vocals. Djent's cultural significance lies in its fusion of technical musicianship and atmospheric soundscapes, appealing to fans of progressive rock and metalcore. Its emphasis on complexity and innovation sets it apart from other metal subgenres, while its use of ambient textures and melodic elements draws from post-rock and ambient genres.
