Djent is a subgenre of progressive metal characterized by its complex, polyrhythmic time signatures, and a distinctive "djent" sound, marked by palm-muted, staccato guitar chords and a prominent use of seven- and eight-string guitars. Emerging in the early 2000s, djent drew inspiration from Swedish extreme metal, particularly Meshuggah's experimental style.
