Galego

Galego, stemming from the cultural heart of Galicia in northwest Spain, is not a genre but rather a term that refers to music performed in the Galician language or by Galician artists. Encompassing a rich tapestry of styles, Galego music includes traditional folk, infused with the melancholic sounds of the gaita (Galician bagpipes), to contemporary pop, rock, hip-hop, and fusion genres. Galician bands and artists, such as the punk-inflected Novedades Carminha, ethereal Fillas de Cassandra, hip-hop flavored Malandrómeda, and the folk-influenced Xabier Díaz, exhibit a vibrant dedication to lyrical storytelling, often weaving the region's tumultuous history and poetic beauty into their sounds. The sonic diversity embraced by these artists illustrates a deep-rooted pride in Galician identity and culture, all while connecting with broader musical dialogues.
