Horror Synth

Horror synth is a dark, atmospheric music genre that emerged in the 1970s and 1980s, primarily as a soundtrack staple for horror films. Characterized by its ominous, pulsing synthesizer lines, driving electronic drum patterns, and haunting atmospheric textures, horror synth evokes a sense of tension and foreboding. The genre often features minimalist, repetitive melodies and eerie sound design elements, creating a sense of unease and dread. Influenced by early electronic music, avant-garde, and prog rock, horror synth draws from the same sonic wellspring as Krautrock and Italo disco. Notable for its association with iconic horror film scores, horror synth has become a cultural touchstone for eerie, suspenseful soundscapes, influencing subsequent genres like darkwave and industrial. Its raw, analog sound and focus on atmosphere have made it a beloved staple among fans of horror cinema and electronic music enthusiasts alike.
