Liquid funk is a subgenre of drum and bass, characterized by its smooth, melodic, and soulful soundscapes. It incorporates elements of jazz, funk, and ambient music, distinguishing itself with fluid basslines, intricate drum patterns, and lush, atmospheric textures. Pioneered by artists like Seba and Naibu, the genre often features harmonious vocals, piano loops, and synths that evoke a sense of euphoria and introspection. Producers like Ivy Lab and Fred V & Grafix add a modern twist, blending traditional liquid funk elements with contemporary electronic influences, resulting in a sophisticated yet accessible auditory experience.
