Neo Soul-jazz

Neo soul-jazz is a smooth and contemporary fusion of soulful R&B and jazz, characterized by its organic blend of traditional jazz sophistication with the emotive expressiveness of soul music. Artists in this genre borrow heavily from the classic sounds of the 60s and 70s soul, underpinned by the improvisational and instrumental prowess of jazz, to create a vibrant tapestry of grooves and melodies. Rich vocal performances, often marked by deeply felt lyrics and an emphasis on authenticity and musicality, are quintessential to the sound. The influence of gospel, funk, and even hip-hop can sometimes be felt in the rhythm sections, while the harmonic structures and arrangements bear the complexity and textural richness of jazz. Neo soul-jazz artists offer a refreshing take on these traditional genres, delivering heartfelt music that resonates with both nostalgia and a contemporary sensibility.
