Pixel

Pixel music is a genre characterized by its nostalgic, chiptune-inspired sound, often featuring 8-bit and 16-bit video game console-style instrumentation, catchy melodies, and upbeat rhythms. Emerging in the 2000s, pixel music draws from the early days of video game soundtracks, particularly those of the 1980s and 1990s. The genre gained popularity in the 2010s, particularly among fans of indie games and online communities. Pixel music often evokes a sense of retro nostalgia, while also incorporating modern electronic dance music (EDM) elements and humor. Its cultural significance lies in its connection to the gaming and internet subcultures, with many artists creating music inspired by video games, memes, and online trends. Notable for its blend of old and new, pixel music stands out from similar styles, such as chiptune and synthwave, with its lighthearted, playful approach and geek culture references.
