Rasin

Rasin, also known as "roots music" in Haiti, is a genre that blends elements of traditional Haitian Vodou rhythms and chants with modern musical styles, including rock and reggae. Born from a movement that sought to reclaim and celebrate Haitian cultural identity, Rasin music is deeply spiritual and politically charged. It incorporates indigenous instruments such as the tanbou (drum) and the bamboo horn along with electric guitars and keyboards, creating a sound that is both raw and captivating. Artists like Boukan Ginen, Azor, and RAM have become synonymous with the genre, using their music to convey messages of freedom, resistance, and the importance of heritage. Rasin acts as a bridge between past and present, inviting listeners to connect with the ancestral sounds of Haiti while engaging with contemporary issues and musical innovation.
