Established in 1994, Govinda emerged as a pioneering force in the world-electronic scene when former Keshava members Satya Mana, Pandit Ananda, and Yasodanandana joined forces with the renowned DJ Om. Blending traditional Indian and Sri Lankan vocals with contemporary club energy, the project achieved immediate acclaim with their debut, Selling India by the Pound, and the hypnotic single "Trascendental Ecstasy." The group’s reach expanded significantly with the 1997 release of Atom Heart Madras under EMI, a seminal work that featured collaborations with icons like Franco Battiato and found a home on elite global compilations such as Buddha Bar and Eterea. During this peak era, Govinda became a staple of the international festival circuit, sharing stages with legends like Massive Attack, Orbital, and Moby.

A new chapter began in 2010 when the band reunited with long-time collaborator Nico Spinosa to launch a partnership with RNC Music. This digital-first resurgence successfully introduced Govinda’s early catalog to a massive new audience, particularly in the United States, where their fusion of psychedelic world music and chillout beats saw a significant revival. Since then, the creative alliance between Govinda and RNC Music has remained prolific; by 2025, the partnership had produced a comprehensive series of new albums and remastered editions that continue to define the "Italo-Indian" sound.
