TrioFenix

**TrioFenix** is a Belgian string trio formed in 2006 by violinist Shirly Laub, violist Tony Nys, and cellist Karel Steylaerts, all seasoned players from top ensembles like Oxalys, the Danel Quartet, and Beethoven Academie. They're all about diving into the underrated world of string trio music, mixing timeless masterpieces from folks like Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, and Haydn with lesser-known and even contemporary pieces—think their killer takes on Mozart's Divertimento KV 563 and Adagios & Fugues KV 404a, which kicked off their first CD in 2010 on Fuga Libera.

These guys have built a solid rep on the chamber music scene, backed by fests like Flanders Festival, Ostbelgiën, and Festival des Ecrins, plus spots on Klara radio and Belgian TV. They love collaborating too—as TrioFenix+, they bring in guests, or morph into the Fenix String Quartet with violinist Sarah Bayens—and in 2025, they dropped Bach's Goldberg Variations (arr. Sitkovetsky) on Evil Penguin to mark their 20th anniversary with fresh concerts everywhere.
