LARRY GERSH AND MIKE BAND

Larry, Gersh & Mike Band (often called LGM Band) is a Zambian trio formed in 1978 in Mufulira, Zambia, emerging from the vibrant Zamrock psychedelic fuzz-rock scene of the 1970s. The band was founded by Larry Maluma (guitar and vocals), Gersh Lumbwe (bass and backing vocals), and Mike Kunda (drums) after they broke away from a band called Heathen. They quickly became known for their tight grooves and original material, recording their debut tracks in 1980 with the guest keyboards by Keith Mlevhu, a notable Zamrock pioneer. Their music fused elements of Zamrock, disco, soul, and later influences, reflecting both their roots and evolving styles.

The band’s recent releases include the *Everyman* EP in 2025, which contains a showcase of their soulful and funky sound with tracks like "Lilly," "Dance," and "Kili," available on Strawberry Rain Music. Larry Maluma would go on to a solo career as well, expanding his musical influence and contributing significantly to African roots and reggae, particularly in Australia. Overall, Larry, Gersh & Mike Band remain an important act in the legacy of Zamrock and Zambian popular music, blending rock, soul, and African rhythms into a distinctive sound that has endured over decades.
