The Blessing was a British band led by singer William Topley, known for blending blues, gospel, soul, and rock into their sound. Formed in London in 1987, they initially played blues and reggae covers before writing original material. They released two albums in the early 1990s: *Prince of the Deep Water* (1991) and *Locusts & Wild Honey* (1994). Their single "Highway 5" became a UK Top 40 hit. The debut album featured notable guest musicians like Nicky Hopkins and Jeff Porcaro and sold around 125,000 copies. Despite critical acclaim, the band split after losing label support due to commercial issues, and Topley later pursued a solo career.
Their music is marked by Topley's soulful vocals and a rich, layered production that captured a mix of British rock sensibility with American blues influences. The Blessing remains remembered for their distinctive style and the quality of their early ‘90s output, particularly the atmospheric and emotionally resonant *Prince of the Deep Water*.
