Bobby Whitlock is a singer, songwriter, and keyboardist best known for his work in the early 1970s as a founding member of Derek and the Dominos, the blues-rock band formed with Eric Clapton. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Whitlock got his start at the legendary Stax Records and later became part of Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, where he played alongside many of the leading musicians of the time. His soulful voice and rich Hammond B3 organ style became a key part of the sound on Derek and the Dominos’ iconic album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.
After the Dominos disbanded, Whitlock launched a solo career, releasing a series of albums throughout the '70s and beyond that showcased both his Southern roots and deep connection to rock and soul. Over the years, he’s continued to perform and record, with a growing appreciation for his role in shaping one of rock’s classic eras. His later releases, like The Bobby Whitlock Story and Vintage Bobby Whitlock, reaffirm his enduring talent and influence.
