American Early Music

American early music encompasses a rich and diverse repertoire rooted in the sounds and traditions of the European medieval, Renaissance, and baroque periods, typically spanning from the 12th to the 18th century. Performed by ensembles and artists who specialize in historical performance practices, this genre seeks to recreate the music as authentically as possible using period instruments and scholarly interpretations of original scores. It celebrates the intricate polyphonies of choral works, the emotive dynamism of baroque orchestration, and the delicate interplay of early chamber music. Ensembles and artists like Chanticleer and Apollo's Fire have gained acclaim for their meticulous musicianship and their ability to imbue these ancient sounds with a freshness that resonates with contemporary audiences.
