Balkan Post-punk

Balkan post‑punk fuses the angular urgency and DIY abrasion of late‑70s punk with the region’s restless urban energy and dark, witty storytelling. It runs on wiry basslines, clipped or dub‑leaning rhythms, jagged guitars and sparse synths, often shifting between danceable grooves and noise‑scuffed minimalism. Vocals can be spoken, shouted, or deadpan, with lyrics that mix satire, politics, street poetry and existential dread in local languages and slang. The sound is both confrontational and ironic—part art‑rock experiment, part basement catharsis—colored by post‑socialist disillusionment, Balkan melancholy, and a stubborn taste for rhythmic bite.
