Berlin School

The Berlin School genre emerged in the 1970s, characterized by its dreamy, atmospheric soundscapes, repetitive sequencer patterns, and minimalist electronic instrumentation. Developed by a collective of German musicians, this style drew inspiration from Krautrock and ambient music, emphasizing texture and mood over traditional melody and rhythm. Often featuring lush synthesizer pads, pulsing arpeggios, and hypnotic drum machine patterns, Berlin School music created a sense of sonic exploration, evoking futuristic landscapes and introspective moods. During the 1970s and 1980s, this genre thrived, influencing the development of electronic music and ambient subcultures. Notable for its use of electronic music technology, Berlin School set itself apart from other genres through its emphasis on atmosphere and sonic experimentation, creating a distinct sound that continues to inspire electronic music artists today.
