Ectofolk

Ectofolk is a genre characterized by introspective, emotionally charged songwriting and soaring vocal melodies, often accompanied by acoustic instrumentation such as piano, guitar, and strings. Emerging in the 1990s, ectofolk drew from folk, rock, and pop traditions, with artists pushing the boundaries of lyrical honesty and sonic experimentation. This era saw a surge in popularity, with ectofolk artists resonating with a generation seeking authenticity and depth in music. Culturally, ectofolk provided a platform for female artists to express themselves candidly, tackling themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. While related to indie folk and adult contemporary, ectofolk's distinctive blend of vulnerability, poetic lyrics, and atmospheric soundscapes sets it apart, making it a unique and captivating genre that continues to inspire and influence contemporary music.
