Griot

Griot music is deeply rooted in the oral storytelling tradition of West Africa, characterized by the vibrant and intricate narratives woven into song by skilled griot musicians. These artists are custodians of their culture's history, combining the art of storytelling with emotive vocal performances and the melodic twang of stringed instruments like the kora, ngoni, and balafon. Griots hold a sacred place in society as historians, genealogists, and advisors, blending social commentary with centuries-old musical forms. Their compositions are rich tapestries of melody, rhythm, and lyricism, often accompanied by dynamic instrumental improvisation. The genre maintains its traditional essence while also embracing contemporary influences, reflecting the evolving African diaspora.
