Noise

Noise music is a genre characterized by its rejection of traditional melodic and harmonic structures, instead emphasizing sonic experimentation and aural disruption. Emerging in the 1970s and 1980s, noise music drew inspiration from avant-garde, industrial, and punk movements, often incorporating distorted electronics, feedback, and unconventional instrumentation. The genre's popularity peaked in the 1990s and early 2000s, with the rise of noise scenes in Japan and the US. Noise music's cultural significance lies in its challenge to traditional musical norms, embracing chaos and disorder as a means of sonic expression. Its relationship to other genres is complex, drawing from industrial, avant-garde, and experimental traditions, yet rejecting traditional notions of music. Notable elements of noise music include its use of white noise, power electronics, and deliberate sonic abrasion, setting it apart from more structured forms of electronic music.
