Rebetiko

Rebetiko, often referred to as the Greek blues, is a music genre that emerged in the urban culture of Greece in the early 20th century. Characterized by its mournful melodies and often poignant, lyrical themes, it reflects the struggles and tales of the urban poor, the outcasts, and the working class. Traditional instruments such as the bouzouki, baglamas, and guitar are central to the sound of rebetiko, providing a distinctive, twanging resonance.
