Tears Run Rings

Tears Run Rings is an American shoegaze and dream pop band that has been subtly coloring the contours of the underground indie scene with their ethereal melodies and hazy soundscapes. Comprised of members Marc Almond (not to be confused with the Soft Cell vocalist), Matthew Bice, Dwayne Palasek, and Laura Watling, the group initially formed in 2006, bonded by a shared appreciation for the noise-pop forebears of the 1980s and '90s. They take their name from the Marc Almond song of the same title, a nod to their deep-rooted influences.

The quartet has cultivated a dedicated fanbase over the years, thanks to a string of emotionally resonant releases that showcase their ability to weave textured guitar work with melancholic vocals. Their debut, "Always, Sometimes, Seldom, Never," arrived in 2008 and introduced their penchant for creating immersive sound walls, draped in nostalgia. Follow-ups like "Distance" and "In Surges" expanded on this foundation, solidifying their standing in the shoegaze community. The latter, crowdfunded and released in 2016, was praised for its lush production and sublime shoegaze anthems. "In Surges" was later repackaged in a remix format, bringing fresh interpretation to the band's intricate layers. While the band's release pace is introspective and deliberate, each new work, such as "Somewhere," and the evocatively titled "Earthrising," offers a deep dive into the enduring allure of their shoegaze dreams.
