Somesurprises

Somesurprises is a Seattle-based musical project led by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Natasha El-Sergany. Born in Letterkenny, Ireland, and raised in the north of England before moving to Florida, El-Sergany eventually settled in Seattle. Initially a solo bedroom project, somesurprises has evolved into a dynamic four-piece band known for its blend of shoegaze, dreampop, drone rock, and experimental improvisation. Their sound is characterized by motorik beats, reverb-drenched vocals, and hazy synths, drawing inspiration from artists like Stereolab and Mazzy Star.

The band's recent work includes the album *Perseids*, released in 2024, which marks a return to the raw, powerful voice memos that began the project. Natasha El-Sergany is also notable for her work as an immigrant rights lawyer, balancing her music career with her legal profession. Somesurprises has been part of Seattle's vibrant music scene, contributing to its eclectic mix of genres and styles. Their music often explores themes of introspection and emotional depth, resonating with fans of atmospheric and experimental music.
