Maria BC is a non-binary ambient musician and singer-songwriter from Ohio, now based in Oakland, California, with roots in a musical family—their dad was a church pianist and organist, sparking a childhood filled with classical vocal training as a mezzo-soprano, church singing, and high school voice lessons.

They kicked off their recording journey in 2020 from a hushed Brooklyn apartment during the pandemic, dropping the intimate debut EP *Devil’s Rain* in 2021, followed by the acclaimed album *Hyaline* in 2022 on Father/Daughter Records—which Pitchfork and Stereogum raved about—then signing with Sacred Bones for *Spike Field* in 2023, and their latest *Marathon* hitting in early 2026. Blending gauzy folk, dark guitar, synths, and choral layers, Maria crafts moody, transcendent soundscapes that feel like whispers from another world, often drawing from personal spots like an out-of-tune family friend’s piano or natural inspirations.
