New London Consort

The New London Consort is an eminent early music ensemble founded in 1972 by the harpsichordist and conductor Philip Pickett. Specializing in performances of music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, the ensemble has established itself as one of the most dynamic and versatile groups in the historical performance field. Under Pickett's artistic direction, the New London Consort has often been lauded for their imaginative interpretations and the virtuosic skill of its members, who play on original instruments or historically informed replicas to provide audiences with a sound that is as authentic as possible.

The ensemble's discography is extensive and varied, capturing the rich tapestry of early music with a particular focus on dramatic and narrative works. Among their most significant recordings are pieces like the lively "Carmina Burana" and the majestic "Vivaldi: Dixit Dominus; Gloria", which reveal the group's ability to bring ancient music to life with vibrancy and precision. Their rendition of the "Monteverdi: 1610 Vespers" showcases a deep understanding of one of the most complex works of the period, while albums such as "Songs of Angels" and "Knightly Passions: The Songs of Oswald von Wolkenstein" highlight their expertise in interpreting vocal music from the distant past. With a flair for capturing the subtleties of early musical language and a commitment to rigorous scholarship, the New London Consort has made significant contributions to the revival and appreciation of early music.
