The Notwist
The Notwist are a German band from Weilheim in Bavaria, originally forming in the late 1980s. They started out rooted in noisy indie rock/post-hardcore, but over time became known for folding in electronics, ambient textures, and pop hooks—often shifting styles from album to album while keeping a moody, melodic core. The group is closely associated with the Weilheim scene, and key members include brothers Markus and Micha Acher.
They’re best known internationally for the album *Neon Golden* (2002), which helped cement their reputation for blending glitchy electronic production with warm songwriting. Across their catalog—from earlier guitar-driven records like *12* and *Shrink* to later releases like *The Devil, You + Me*—The Notwist have built a cult following for music that feels experimental without losing its emotional pull.
