T. Rex was an English rock band led by the flamboyant and iconic Marc Bolan. The group initially formed as Tyrannosaurus Rex in 1967, starting as a psychedelic folk act before transitioning to a pioneering force in glam rock during the early 1970s. Their sound evolved considerably under Bolan's direction, who penned, sang, and played electric guitar, evolving into a mix of rock and roll simplicity and fantastical lyrical themes, setting the foundation for the glam rock movement with glittery fashion and a standout stage presence.
The band's most celebrated era featured hits such as "Bang a Gong (Get It On)", "Ride A White Swan", and "Hot Love", with "Electric Warrior" and "The Slider" among their most acclaimed albums. Despite facing a decline in commercial success by the mid-70s, T. Rex maintained a loyal fan base and experienced a resurgence of interest in subsequent decades. Tragically, Bolan’s untimely death in a car accident in 1977 effectively ended the band's run. However, T. Rex has since secured a legacy as one of the quintessential glam rock bands, influencing countless artists across various genres, from punk to Britpop. The posthumously-released tracks and albums, such as "Dandy In The Underworld" and outtakes from their golden years, continue to excite fans and collectors, ensuring that the electric spirit of T. Rex continues to resonate through the music world.
