Cerkes Muzikleri

Cerkes muzikleri (Çerkes müzikleri) is the modern and traditional music of the Circassian peoples of the North Caucasus and their diaspora, built around driving dance rhythms and a proud, lyrical melodic style. It often features the bright, reedy voice of the pşıne (Circassian accordion) alongside percussion and handclaps, with newer recordings adding bass, drum kit, and polished pop/folk production. Songs move between exuberant wedding and “jegu” dance pieces—fast, syncopated, and communal—and more reflective ballads that carry themes of homeland, honor, exile, and identity. The overall feel is energetic, elegant, and deeply tied to social dance culture.
