Post-punk

Post-punk is a genre characterized by its experimental and avant-garde approach to rock music, emerging in the late 1970s and peaking in the early 1980s. Defined by its use of unconventional rhythms, atmospheric soundscapes, and introspective lyrics, post-punk rejects the raw energy of punk in favor of a more cerebral and art-rock influenced sound. Artists drew from art rock, funk, and electronic music to create a distinctive blend of moody textures, driving beats, and introspective vocals. This genre was a key response to the commercialism of mainstream rock, seeking to challenge and subvert traditional notions of music-making. Post-punk's influence can be seen in its connections to gothic rock, new wave, and indie rock, while its experimental ethos set it apart from other punk subgenres.
