Shabad

Shabad is a devotional music genre rooted in the Sikh tradition, primarily focused on the singing of Gurbani, the sacred hymns from the Sikh scriptures. It is characterized by its meditative and spiritual quality, aiming to evoke a sense of peace, devotion, and connection with the divine. Shabad performers, often referred to as Ragis, employ a combination of traditional Indian classical music elements, such as ragas and talas, alongside the use of harmoniums, tablas, and other classical instruments to enhance the spiritual atmosphere. The genre is marked by its deep vocal expressiveness, which conveys the profound and universal messages of the Sikh Gurus. Shabad Kirtan is commonly performed in Gurdwaras and during religious gatherings, offering a serene and uplifting experience for listeners.
