The Sound of Norman OK Indie

Follow

"The Sound of Norman OK Indie" is a broad, lo-fi snapshot of the indie and underground music scene coming out of Norman, Oklahoma. This playlist brings together decades of local flavor, from the fuzzy dream-pop of Evangelicals and Radial Spangle to the garage-rock punch of BRONCHO and the Hosty Duo’s rootsy weirdness. Tracks like “Sandman” and “Bloodstream” sit comfortably next to more stripped-down offerings like Abbigale Dawn’s “Ex Boyfriend Blues” and Brad Fielder's folky “He's A Mighty Good Leader.”

Spanning everything from psychedelia and folk to punk, swing, Americana, and lo-fi pop, the playlist shows off the diversity of Norman’s DIY scene. There's a mix of established acts like The Flaming Lips' collaboration with Stardeath and White Dwarfs, and breakout indie artists like Helen Kelter Skelter, Katie Williams, or Crush Molly Sunshine. It's loose and shifty, an eclectic feed of original voices and homegrown sounds still rolling out across college bars, coffee shops, and backyard shows.
