Adult Standards

Adult standards is a genre of music characterized by its lush, orchestral arrangements, smooth vocal styles, and a focus on timeless, sentimental lyrics. Emerging in the 1920s and 1930s, it evolved from jazz and traditional pop, with crooners and jazz singers popularizing the style in the 1940s and 1950s. During its heyday in the 1950s and 1960s, adult standards became synonymous with sophistication and elegance, providing a soundtrack for dinner parties, nightclubs, and romantic evenings. This genre's cultural significance lies in its ability to evoke a bygone era of refinement and glamour, while also showcasing exceptional vocal talent and interpretive skills. With its blend of jazz, pop, and classical influences, adult standards distinguishes itself from other genres through its emphasis on vocal nuance, phrasing, and emotional depth, making it a beloved and enduring part of American musical heritage.
