Naija Old School

Naija Old School is a vibrant and soul-stirring genre deeply rooted in the musical traditions of Nigeria, combining elements of Afrobeat, highlife, juju, and modern hip hop and R&B influences that flourished from the late 20th century into the early 2000s. This genre encapsulates a pivotal era in Nigeria's music scene, characterized by its rhythmic complexity, rich melodies, and often socially-conscious lyrics that speak to the heart of the Nigerian experience. Artists like Paul I.K. Dairo, Tony Tetuila, and Sound Sultan were renowned for their storytelling prowess, blending indigenous languages with English, and employing traditional instruments alongside electronic beats to create a unique sound that resonated with both local and international audiences. Naija Old School is celebrated for its innovative fusion of styles, laying the foundational sounds that have influenced the contemporary Afrobeat movement.
