Neurofunk

Neurofunk is a subgenre of drum and bass characterized by its meticulous production and futuristic sound. It emerged in the late 1990s, evolving from techstep with the addition of complex bass lines, intricate soundscapes, and a heavy emphasis on atmosphere. The genre is known for its dark, robotic vibes, employing advanced sound design techniques that often result in otherworldly and aggressive bass textures. Neurofunk tracks typically feature sharp, precise drums, and modulated bass that twist and turn through progressions, delivering a powerful and cerebral listening experience. The style is sci-fi-inspired and has an intellectual edge, as seen in the work of artists such as Maztek and The Upbeats, who weave layers of dense sonic elements together to create an immersive auditory environment reminiscent of a futuristic technological landscape.
